Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls... Welcome to my first ever blog. Let me start off with a brief introduction. From Fairfield County, CT, Current Villanova Finance and Business Analytics Student. Die Hard Yankee fan since 2004. There are only 4 things in life that matter to me. God/Family/Friends, Money, Food, and THE NEW YORK YANKEES. I have watched some form of every game either on Live TV, in person, or very rarely in highlights. I have been doing this for years and I wanted an avenue to publish my thoughts.

This is going to be a weekly blog summing up the week of baseball with my own takes and reviewing our outlook for the next couple of weeks. So lets jump right into it.

Let me start off by saying that this team has been nothing short of spectacular and surprising. I always knew we had the talent to perform at a high level.  But with the plethora of injuries that we have endured this year, I can safely say I did not think we would have the record we have currently. Nonetheless break the MLB record for consecutive games with a Home Run at 31 games. Why? It is because of the type of players that we have in the depth of our roster.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you must know that home run hitting is the trendy part of baseball. Heck, just today Justin Verlander, according to Timothy Rapp on Twitter, said that the baseballs are "100% juiced", which was a tactic for MLB to boost offense and increase viewership. But as a common theme in the last 3 years of World Series winners, they were constructed of a lot of contact hitters who can perform in the clutch. In 2018 the Red Sox were 9th in Team Home Runs in the MLB, in 2016 the Cubs were 13th in the league, according to ESPN stats. Yet their ability to hit for contact allowed them to propel past the teams that could only hit home runs.

My point is that this year the Yankees have been able to fix their approach at the plate by cutting strikeouts and being able to hit with Runners in Scoring Position and for contact. So while their slugging percentages may not be as towering as Gary Sanchez and Judge, they are able to obviously have a high BA and also a high BA w/ RISP. Examples like DJ Lemahieu, Gio Urshela, Gleyber Torres are high BA/ Clutch Players who have above average defensive skills. These are going to be some key guys that will play large for us when we compete in October. Guys like these have been proven to bolster offenses in October for previous teams. Not to mention a spectacular bullpen in Ottavino, Chapman, Kahnle, and Britton that has really taken the pressure off of our starting pitching.

All in all aside from not having Betances and Severino, and having middle of the road starting pitching, there  is nothing to complain about when it comes to the first half of 2019 with the Yankees. This gives us a positive outlook for the rest of the season and gives us great momentum to the All Star break.

Now our goal for the deadline is to get a solid SP in Bumgarner, Scherzer, etc. and we can afford to let go of some prospects as we have the need to win now!

See you all next Monday!!

2021 Yankees Pitching Preview

HEYYYYOOOOOOOO!!! Welcome back to Furn Talk. We are back for 2021 providing my hot takes for MLB and for our beloved New York Yankees. There is so much to talk about with Opening Day only 1 week away! So exciting. The Offseason: This offseason the Yankees Re-Signed DJ LeMahieu (6 yrs. $90M, we will talk about him in the next article), Signed Corey Kluber (1yr. $11M), and traded for Jameson Taillon, and signed Justin Wilson and Darren O’Day. Clearly Brian Cashman and the rest of the Yankees front office wanted to upgrade the rotation and did just that. Unfortunately, we lost Masahiro Tanaka this offseason, as he goes back to Japan. He was a favorite amongst Yankee Fans and will be dearly missed. A great Postseason pitcher and a great clubhouse presence, Tanaka’s contributions to the Yankees will not be forgotten. The Rotation: Keeping on the Pitching Staff, the Yankees are entering their last week of Spring Training. Here is a potential Opening Day Rotation for the Yankees: Starti...

Furn Talk Vol.5 @lfurns11 Twitter @lfurneri11 Instagram HEEEYYYYYOOOOOO!!! Happy Monday and welcome back to Furn Talk, a place to get away from the awful stresses of the world and talk Yankees and Baseball! Gonna be a juicy one this week so many things to cover including the trade deadline. SOOOOO let's jump right in. Fox Sports Image Trade Deadline: Well this was a hard part of the week to swallow. After having a Starting Pitcher ERA of over 11. It seemed like a pretty apparent sign for Brian Cashman to get a solid Starting Pitcher at the deadline. But the asking price was too high for the Yankees. While it seemed to be looking alright, since the Dodgers, Astros, and Red Sox didn't make any moves, the Astros acquire Zack Greinke at the Deadline making easily the best Starting Rotation in the American League. The Astros now have Verlander, Greinke, Cole, and newly acquired Aaron Sanchez of the Blue Jays. 3 of those Names will finish Top-10 in AL Cy Young Voting. Grea...
